Dental Goals for 2018

From Our Patients

I’m truly impressed! This was my second visit for a dental cleaning, and just like the first time, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment I walked in until I left. However, they exceeded my expectations when I returned with my kids. The work culture here is remarkable—highly professional and filled with experts who genuinely care about their patients.

I’ve been to many dental clinics, but this is the first one that provided such a thorough explanation regarding my concerns. The hygienist even gave me a helpful tip on flossing and brushing, considering my small mouth, to ensure I can clean the back of my teeth properly. Not only am I completely satisfied, but for the first time in a long while, I actually enjoyed a dental visit -Jo Bo

Another great year has ended! Along with your regular New Year’s resolutions, Drs. Calder, Durr, and Short suggest that you have a few dental resolutions. These goals can help your smile shine in the years to come!

Brush Your Teeth for a Full Two Minutes
Although most individuals only brush their teeth for about 45 seconds, it is important to brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes, twice a day. Two minutes is the recommended amount of time to brush teeth because it allows enough time for you to thoroughly clean your teeth.

Brush at a Good Time
Brushing after meals is a great thing, however, we recommend that you wait for about half an hour. This is especially important if you ate something acidic, like lemons or soda. You can drink water or chew sugarless gum to clean the teeth a little while you wait to brush.

Store Your Toothbrush Properly
Avoid storing your toothbrush in a closed container or drawer as this can encourage the growth of germs. Your toothbrush should be stored upright in the open air so that it can dry properly and so that germs won’t grow on it as easily.

Don’t Chew Ice & Other Objects
Chewing ice and non-food items like pens can chip or crack the teeth. If this is a habit that you have, try to stop this year.

Don’t Use Your Teeth Like Tools
The teeth should never be used to tear or cut open packages. Do not use your teeth like scissors, as this can cause unnatural wear or otherwise damage the teeth.

Visit Comfort Dental Excellence Regularly
Our dentists and team in Spring, Texas, stress the importance of coming into our office at least twice a year for regular cleanings and checkups. In addition, it is important that you keep any scheduled appointments for treatments. Skipping checkups can have dire circumstances, as our dentists will not have the chance to examine your teeth and gums for signs of decay and other issues.
