What is gum contouring?
Gum contouring is a good choice for our patients whose smiles are flawed by uneven or excess gum tissue. During the gum contouring treatment, our dentists gently reshape the gum line to help you achieve a more aesthetic, inviting appearance. In many cases, we can finish the entire gum contouring treatment in a single visit to Comfort Dental Excellence.
Do I need gum contouring?
Dr. Calder and team may suggest gum contouring, also called crown lengthening, in Spring, Texas, if your gum line is uneven or is otherwise flawed. This is also a common treatment for patients who have what is sometimes called a “gummy smile.” A gummy smile is one in which the teeth look abnormally short. In most cases, the teeth are of a normal length and shape, but they are covered by excess gum tissue. To correct this condition, we gently remove the excess tissues and reveal more of the natural tooth structure. For some patients, we may recommend combining gum contouring with another cosmetic dental treatment, such as veneers, for a truly stunning smile transformation. Crown lengthening is sometimes also required as part of a restorative treatment, like a crown. For more information, we invite you to call or visit our office today.
