October brings fall winds and trick-or-treaters but it also brings National Orthodontic Health Month! At Comfort Dental Excellence in Spring, Texas, Drs. Durr, and Short want our patients to understand how important orthodontics is to a healthy, aligned smile. Our practice is happy to create awareness about orthodontics and the promotion of orthodontic health for our patients aligning their smiles with our Fastbraces® system.
Protecting Your Smile:
— To protect braces and aligners, please avoid any kind of candy or snacks which are hard, sticky, crunchy or chewy. This includes caramel, bubblegum, but even soda can damage your braces thanks to the acids. Never chew ice, and watch out for popcorn, nuts, candies with nuts inside, and peanut candies in the hard-shell.
— If you are indulging in more sugary treats due to the holiday, beat cavities by stepping up your brushing and flossing game. Brush carefully around all of your brackets and wires, focusing on places where your teeth meet your gums and where your braces attach to your teeth.
— To protect your braces, stick with soft chocolates, peppermint patties, peanut butter cups and other treats that melt in your mouth and can easily be washed away.
— For those wearing braces who also engage in sports, consider wearing mouth guards to protect your lips and your cheeks from cuts or damaged braces should you accidentally get hit in the face or fall down.
